News and Views from Roanna Martin, Farm Stand Manager
For those of you who have not been able to make it to the Strawberry Square market location yet, I just wanted to give you a glimpse of what market days look like downtown.
With two weeks under our belts, we are excited about bringing fresh produce to the Square. Every Tuesday morning, a few last minute herbs and greens are picked, and stuffed into the farm van alongside the items that were harvested the day before. We grab some signs, water, and Josh drives me (Roanna) and two of the youth a few minutes down the road to Strawberry Square.
Our contacts at the Square have been very supportive and helpful in creating a beautiful marketplace complete with banners, photos from the farm, and reusable grocery bags that feature the Joshua Farm and Strawberry Square logos.
It is so much fun to see the excitement on people’s faces as they find a few tables of fresh produce tucked into a store front right next to Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. The youth have been doing a great job at customer service- greeting visitors enthusiastically and working hard to get the right change as quickly as possible.
Fresh herbs, cool cucumbers, and delightful berries have all been selling well. If you’re planning to come, make sure that you come early enough to get the best possible selection of produce. The market is open from 10-1 every Tuesday.
Thanks to everyone who has been helping in this endeavor!
